Dream in Color Studio School Policies

Non-Discrimination Policy

Dream in Color Foundation & Studio does not discriminate against any student based on race, color, national origin or beliefs.

Attendance

Students are expected to arrive on time. Classes will not be delayed for late arrivals. Students arriving to class more than 10 minutes late will only be allowed to observe class for credit. Students with more than allowed number of absences will be placed on probationary status.

Dress Code

Students are expected to arrive for class dressed in proper dance attire. Students not in proper dress will only be allowed to observe class.

Boys

(For Ballet and Modern only) Boys must wear black tights, white T-shirt, white socks, and white or black ballet shoes. If age appropriate, boys must also have a dance belt. (All other classes) Flexible.

Girls

(For Ballet only) Ladies must wear colored leotards according to class level (see below) and flesh colored matching tights and shoes. Hair must be pulled back into a bun and/or pinned securely away from the face and neck.

Tights, ballet slippers and/or pointe shoes should match (all flesh colored). Pink or white ballet slippers, leather or canvas, and pointe shoes can be spray painted to match tights. Canvas ballet slippers and pointe shoes can also be dyed with foundation (make-up is applied with a wet sponge), fabric dye or coffee grounds.

Expulsion Policy: Students can be expelled from the program, as deemed necessary by the School Director, due to repeated violations of the codes of conduct, excessive absenteeism or tardiness, or chronic delinquency of tuition payments. Students who are expelled will be responsible for all tuition owed.

Inclement Weather Policy DICF's Studio School will follow Fairfax County Public School System's closing schedule for inclement weather. When FCPS schools are closed for snow, then DICF will not hold classes. Please call DICF to confirm closing information; particularly when the inclement weather occurs on Saturdays, or where FCPS schools are dismissed early or start late because of inclement weather. DICF will make every effort to reschedule classes that are canceled due to weather; however, we cannot guarantee that missed classes can be made up.

Payment For the Fall Session, the Placement/Scholarship Audition is in August. For the Summer Session, the Placement/Scholarship Audition is in May. For all sessions tuition is due by the 3rd day of the month. The first month is due at the time of registration. Late fees will be incurred after the 3rd day of the month. If the payment is not received by the 10th day of the month, the student will not be permitted to attend classes until the balance is paid in full. Failure to meet these payment deadlines, without a pre-approved payment arrangement with DICF's Finance department, can result in the implementation of a quarterly payment system and/or suspension or expulsion. Once a student is registered for a course, he/she is held responsible for the entire tuition for that course, regardless of non-attendance due to tuition delinquency, expulsion, or withdrawal. Accounts that are seriously delinquent will be sent to a collection agency.

Refunds Full course refunds will only be made for students who officially withdraw on or before the first day of the course. A graduated refund of 50% will be given for students who officially withdraw on or before the second class meeting. Thereafter, no refunds will be given, but class transfers are an option. Students are responsible for the remainder of the owed tuition regardless of attendance. All students requesting withdrawal must complete an official withdrawal form, and pay all owed fees or set up a payment plan with the registrar for those fees. Students on partial scholarship are not eligible for refunds at any time.

Scholarship Policy The Dream in Color Foundation scholarship program is designed to promote the long term participation in our dance and music programs. Scholarships are available based on their financial need and/or artistic ability and promise. Scholarships are awarded each session for students in both the Dance and/or Music Programs.

Students enrolled in DICF's Company Dance Program receive priority in scholarship decisions.
DICF will strive to have the size of scholarship awards correspond to the number of classes students are taking. For example, advanced students taking a large number of classes will generally receive larger scholarship awards than beginning students taking two or three classes a week.
Scholarship awards are not final until both the student (and parent if the student is younger than 18 years old) and DICF complete and sign the Scholarship Award Agreement. Students who fail to adhere to the conditions of the agreement risk losing their scholarship.
Students who have outstanding balances may be ineligible for scholarships.
Dance students must take at least one ballet class in order to be eligible for a scholarship and Music students must be by recommendation of the instructor.
Students who have completed at least two sessions of study at DICF receive priority in scholarship award decisions.
Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average to remain eligible for assistance.

Code of Conduct

Joining the Dream in Color Family is an honor and requires each individual to uphold the policies, regulations, and guidelines established for students, staff and administration, and other employees, and the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Each member is required to adhere to and conform to the instructions and guidance of the leadership of his/her respective area of study. Therefore, the following are expected of each member of the DICF Family:

1. To respect himself or herself.
Each member of the DICF Family will exhibit a maturity and self-respect that is age appropriate and foster an appreciation for other cultures and one’s own cultural background. It is only through these appreciations that the future of our foundation can be sustained indefinitely.

2. To respect the dignity, feelings, worth, and values of others.
Each member of the DICF Family will respect one another and visitors as if they were guests in one’s home. Therefore, to ridicule, harass, or otherwise show disrespect to students, staff, parents or others; to engage in gender harassment, use vile, obscene or abusive language or exhibit lewd behavior, to possess weapons such as knives or firearms, or to be involved in the possession, use, distribution of and sale of illegal drugs is strictly prohibited and is in direct violation of the Dream in Color Foundation Code, on or off site.

3. To respect the rights and property of others and to discourage vandalism and theft.
Each member of the DICF Family will refrain from illegal activity, both on and off site, and will be subject to all applicable provisions listed in the Personnel Policies Manual for Administrative/Professional, the Official Student Handbook, and the DICF Code.

4. To prohibit discrimination, while striving to learn from differences in people, ideas, and opinions.
Each member of the DICF Family will support equal rights and opportunities for all regardless of age, sex, race, religion, disability, ethnic heritage, socioeconomic status, political, social, or other affiliation or disaffiliation, or sexual preference.

5. To practice personal, professional, and academic integrity, and to discourage all forms of dishonesty, deceit, and disloyalty to the Code of Conduct.
Personal and professional integrity is paramount to the survival and potential of the DICF Family. Therefore, individuals found in violation of DICF's policies against lying, cheating, plagiarism, or stealing are subject to disciplinary action which could possibly include dismissal from the Studio.

6. To foster a personal professional work ethic within the DICF Family.
Each employee and student of the DICF Family must strive for efficiency and job perfection. Each employee must exhibit a commitment to serve, and job tasks must be executed in a humane and civil manner.

7. To foster an open, fair, and caring environment.
Each member of the DICF Family is assured equal and fair treatment on the adjudication of all matters. In addition, it is understood that intellectual stimulation is nurtured through the sharing of ideas. Therefore, the Foundation will maintain an open and caring environment.

8. To be fully responsible for upholding the DICF Code.
Each member of the DICF Family will embrace all tenets of the Code and is encouraged to report all code violators.

Privacy Policy

Patrons of the Dream in Color Foundation can rest assured that their contact information is not shared with other patrons or visitors of this site or sold on to 3rd parties for any reason. Donations made to DICF on this site fully protects the patrons' rights to privacy with regards to disclosure and protection of sensitive information.

Dream in Color Foundation does not disclose, share, sell, or trade information about your individual visits to the web site or the information that you may give, such as your name, address, e-mail address or telephone number, to any outside companies except for the use of completing a donation transaction that you initiate or a request to volunteer with a our organization.

Dream in Color Foundation takes every precaution to protect its users’ information. When users submit sensitive information via the web site, their information is protected both online and offline. When their registration/order form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry.

Anti-Harassment Policy

The Dream in Color Foundation is committed to providing all students and employees with a safe and supportive arts education environment in which all members of the studio community are treated with respect. Teachers and other staff members are expected to teach and demonstrate by example that all members of the community are entitled to respect.

It is hereby the policy of the Dream in Color Foundation to prohibit harassment based on real or perceived race, color, religion (creed), national origin, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, or on the basis of association with others identified by these categories. This policy is intended to comply with the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as federal requirements.

The Dream in Color Foundation shall act to investigate all complaints of harassment, formal or informal, verbal or written, and to discipline or take other appropriate action against any member of the school community who is found to have violated this policy.
